As you will read, there is a huge need and limited competition for rheumatology in Bismarck. In fact, there is over a 1 year wait time for new patients. Referrals are only good for one year, so this becomes an issue, they are currently sending their endometriosis patients back to PCP’s.
The current wait time is also because, our rheumatology department has a huge referral base which extends all the way over to Jamestown and Fargo, up north to Canada and along the west all the way to Billings, Montana and south to Sioux Falls and Rapid City, South Dakota. So, a 350-mile radius from Bismarck area. To make matters worse, another hospital in Bismarck is suffering which has huge impact on their workload.
Due to the increase of patient load, number of referrals coming in and the capacity of the hospital which seems to be full every day., changes are being made – new buildings and facilities are being purchased, built, renovated, etc.
