Position Overview

Understanding the Role

Your Next Chapter in Women's Healthcare Excellence

Imagine joining a women's health program at a pivotal moment of transformation—where your expertise won't just fill a position, but will help reshape how obstetric and gynecologic care is delivered to an entire community. As one of four OB/GYN physicians at Beacon Health Kalamazoo, you'll step into a practice that's deliberately evolving from traditional coverage models to a progressive, physician-friendly structure that prioritizes both exceptional patient care and sustainable work-life integration.

This isn't about maintaining the status quo. Beacon Health Kalamazoo serves as the cornerstone of women's healthcare for Kalamazoo and the surrounding southwest Michigan communities, currently operating with significant unmet demand. The health system recognizes they hold a smaller market share in obstetrics than they should, and they're investing heavily in building a program that will become the regional destination for women's health. Your arrival represents part of an intentional expansion—growing from two overextended physicians relying on locums coverage to a fully-staffed department of four OB/GYNs working in harmony with five certified nurse midwives.

The Role That Awaits You

  • Full-time position as part of a four-physician OB/GYN team, with flexibility for a four-day work week
  • Board certification or board eligibility in Obstetrics and Gynecology required, with genuine openness to recent graduates who bring fresh energy and current training
  • Collaborative practice model where you'll work alongside midwives who handle first-call responsibilities, allowing you to focus on complex cases and surgical procedures
  • Leadership opportunities available for those interested in helping shape the growing women's health service line
  • Teaching opportunities without the pressure of academic requirements—share your expertise when inspired, not because it's mandated

Your Weekly Rhythm

The position offers a thoughtfully structured schedule designed around sustainability. You'll have clinic days and OR Block time days—a rhythm that allows you to develop surgical expertise while maintaining continuity with your patient panel. The administration understands that 36 hours of patient-facing time is the sweet spot, with an additional four hours built in for documentation and administrative tasks. Unlike positions where charting follows you home every evening, this structure acknowledges the reality of modern practice.

Building Something Meaningful

This position offers more than employment—it's an invitation to help establish Beacon Health Kalamazoo as the premier destination for women's health in southwest Michigan. The healthcare system has committed resources and recruited leadership who understand that building an exceptional program requires exceptional working conditions for physicians. Your voice will matter here, your insights will shape protocols, and your vision for excellent patient care will find fertile ground.

As part of the larger Beacon Health system, you'll have the resources and stability of a major healthcare organization while maintaining the collegial, community-focused atmosphere that makes practice enjoyable. This is where career satisfaction meets professional growth—where you can perform complex surgeries on Monday, deliver babies on Tuesday, and still make it to your family dinner on Wednesday night.
