Position Overview

Understanding the Role

Noninvasive Cardiology Opportunity in Southwest Colorado

You will join Montrose Regional Health as a full-time noninvasive cardiologist, providing comprehensive outpatient cardiology services to the communities of Montrose and Cortez, Colorado. This position represents an exceptional opportunity to establish a robust cardiology service line in Southwest Colorado while enjoying the rare combination of 100% outpatient practice and true autonomy in a supportive rural healthcare environment.

Your practice will serve Montrose County and surrounding communities in the Four Corners region, an area with significant need for cardiology services. Currently, the region relies heavily on traveling cardiologists and referrals to larger metropolitan areas, creating access challenges for patients who need consistent, local cardiac care. As the primary cardiologist for this service line, you will fill a vital healthcare gap, providing continuity of care that transforms patient outcomes in this underserved rural community.

Key Position Elements:

  • Board-certified or board-eligible in Cardiovascular Disease with strong noninvasive cardiology skills
  • 100% outpatient clinical practice with no inpatient rounding responsibilities
  • Monday through Thursday clinic schedule (four 10-hour days), with Fridays available for reading time
  • Comprehensive reading responsibilities including EKGs, stress tests (nuclear and echocardiographic), Holter monitors, and event monitors for the region
  • Primary practice location at Montrose Regional Health with potential rotation to Cortez clinic
  • Opportunity to build and shape the cardiology service line from the ground up
  • Collaborative relationship with referring primary care physicians throughout the region
  • Support from medical assistants and nursing staff dedicated to cardiology services
  • Full Epic EMR integration (planned for early 2025 in Cortez location)

This is a newly expanded position designed to meet growing community demand for cardiology services. You will have the autonomy to practice medicine according to your clinical judgment while working within reasonable productivity expectations established by the medical group. The role offers significant professional satisfaction through direct community impact, with patients who genuinely appreciate having access to specialty cardiac care close to home.

You will work in a modern, well-equipped clinic environment with access to comprehensive diagnostic imaging, laboratory services, and a close working relationship with the hospital's cardiac catheterization capabilities through visiting interventional cardiologists. The position provides an ideal balance for experienced cardiologists seeking to maintain clinical excellence while enjoying exceptional quality of life in one of Colorado's most spectacular regions.
