Phoenix Children's Hospital opened in 1983 as the first pediatric specialty hospital in Arizona. Located in Phoenix, it has grown into one of the largest and most respected children's hospitals in the United States. Phoenix Children's provides comprehensive family-centered medical care to children in over 75 pediatric specialties. The 433-bed hospital has over 1,200 pediatric specialists on staff and provides care ranging from primary to critical care.
Phoenix Children's has been named one of U.S. News & World Report's Best Children's Hospitals for 13 consecutive years, with top 50 rankings in Neurology, Neurosurgery, Neonatology, Endocrinology, Urology, Cardiology, Pulmonology, and more. It is the only hospital in Arizona to ever be ranked. Phoenix Children's is also verified as a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Major service lines at Phoenix Children's include the Children's Heart Center, Barrow Neurological Institute, Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, Newborn Intensive Care Unit, Orthopedic Center, and Level 1 Trauma Center. Phoenix Children's also operates a dedicated research institute conducting pediatric medical research.
Phoenix Children’s has gone through tremendous growth over its 40-year history. After starting within Good Samaritan Hospital, it became a freestanding hospital in 2002. A major expansion completed in 2010 made Phoenix Children’s one of the largest children’s hospitals in the country. A second expansion was just completed in 2023 adding an additional 212,000 sq. ft to the main hospital along with 49 more beds. Phoenix Children’s continues to expand services across Arizona with numerous specialty and urgent care centers. Two new Children’s Hospital opening their doors in 2024 including the PCH-East Valley hospital in Gilbert, AZ and the PCH-Arrowhead Campus in Glendale, AZ.

Med-Surg: Covers 5 floors and upwards of 300 beds.
Inpatient Census: 100-150 daily. Can vary by as much as 80 in summer to 180 in the peak winter sick season
NICU: Arizona's only American Academy of Pediatrics-designated Level IV NICU

Inpatient service includes a 48-bed CV intensive care unit and transition care unit.
Realistically there are 24 CVICU beds and the other 24 can flex up. The other 24 are more similar to med-surg or “floor” beds

There are two located in the surgical unit. They are not separated. The 2 Cath Labs and Endo are located adjacent to the OR’s.
Due to an existing contract with the previous Radiology group the Cath Lab falls under Radiology for the next two years.
Imaging: CT, Echocardiography, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound
Physician Staff: PCH just recently brought all of the physician staff under the PCH umbrella.
Prior all of the services were contracted out to local groups
This past has created some awkward arrangements and reporting structures within the hospital. These oddities are being corrected as existing contract expire.
One good example is that the Cath Labs fall under the Radiology team since the US services were negotiated on a 7-year contract in 2018
