At Adventist Health Columbia Gorge, compensation is not a negotiation tactic — it’s a partnership promise. The organization’s philosophy is simple: attract great physicians, support them completely, and retain them long term. For a field as demanding as oncology, that means creating a structure that rewards excellence and loyalty without burdening physicians with unrealistic production targets.
You’ll earn at or above the median national compensation for hematology/oncology, reflecting the program’s respect for your expertise, scope of responsibility, and the regional importance of your work. Leadership is transparent about compensation and will ensure your package is both fair and sustainable from your first day forward.
The system offers two parallel compensation models, both structured to align with your practice philosophy and preferred work style:
Both options emphasize quality over quantity and protect you from burnout while maintaining earning potential equivalent to or higher than other community oncology programs.
As the program expands, there is a clear pathway toward additional compensation through leadership. Should you assume the Medical Director of Hematology/Oncology role, you’ll receive a separate stipend for administrative responsibilities and formal leadership recognition within the Adventist Health system. This role includes guiding tumor board initiatives, accreditation compliance, quality metrics, and recruitment planning — and your compensation will grow accordingly.
Beyond direct salary, the health system uses several retention incentives to ensure you are rewarded for staying and leading. These include longevity bonuses, professional development opportunities, and increasing CME allowances as you assume more responsibility. The goal is simple: your financial growth should mirror your professional investment in the program.
Your total compensation package is built to support you as a whole person — clinician, mentor, parent, and community member. From the moment you arrive, you’ll feel the difference in how this organization cares for its people.
This role offers more than a paycheck — it provides a foundation for a fulfilling, balanced career. You’ll have the income security to build roots in the community, invest in your family’s future, and practice medicine without sacrificing your wellbeing.
The organization’s leadership understands that physicians give their best when they feel trusted, fairly compensated, and emotionally supported. Your compensation reflects that trust — competitive enough to attract excellence, structured enough to promote balance, and transparent enough to inspire confidence.
Here, your financial stability and your personal peace of mind are not in competition — they’re aligned by design.
