Gastroenterology Practice: Patient Care, Procedures, and Work Schedule

Your practice will consist of a combination of outpatient clinics, inpatient consults, and procedures. Outpatient management and inpatient consultations for adult patients; inpatients are managed by hospitalists with GI consultation.

Outpatient and inpatient procedures, including EGDs, food dis-impaction, esophageal variceal banding, and diagnostic screening, colonoscopies, esophageal manometry, pH monitoring, and capsule endoscopy.

Currently ERCP and EUS are performed by General Surgery. Approximately 150 ERCP cases annually. Approximately 20 cases per year of EUS are sent out as ANMC does not have the equipment for EUS and does not have it on the radar for future procurement.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 6 PM; on-call 1:4 weeks; no evenings or weekends except when serving on-call. A full day of clinic consists of 10 to 14 patients per day. 1 hour for a new patient, 3o minute for general follow ups, and up to 0 minutes for post procedure follow up. 7 to 10 inpatient consultations per week. 15 to 25 procedures per week for the group. Procedures mostly in the Endoscopy suite with Anesthesia available as needed. Very few procedures occur in the operating room.

Qualifications: Completion of an ACGME/AOA approved residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Gastroenterology; BE/BC in Gastroenterology; collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity.
