As a director, 20% of your duties or 1 day will apply toward Admin. Hospitalists will administer rotations and consultations are very minimal. There is a full-time interventional radiologist, a dedicated breast radiologist, and a generalized radiologist. Common cases are, but not limited to, lymphoma, myeloma.kemia transplants, and thoracic surgeries which are done onsite; this has been preferred by the patient(s) out of convenience and ease of care.
This opportunity offers a 5-day work week with the opportunity to work 4 days per week. Normal patient volume averages from 10-12 per day with the opportunity to see up to 15, though this is not a requirement. You will also have the option to see your own patient or alternate with a PA. There is no delay when it comes to treatment, “so the patient needs to be seen today. We're going to see them today.” - John Girard, MD, Administrate Director, Cancer Center
The Cancer Center is located on the 1st floor of the hospital and is a fully operational clinic. There are nine exam rooms and (13) infusion chairs, all staffed with OCN certified nurses that do all the chemo. We have a total of two NPs, two nurses, a dietician, and two Board Certified Hem/Oncs. Our Nurse Practitioners oversee the infusion center and are there to address any issues that arise, in addition to seeing their own patient panel. In addition to that, we have three Rad/Oncs, one Surg/Onc.
Augusta Health has a pathology lab and pharmacy onsite. An onsite pathology lab allows for various tests to be conducted on patient samples to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease within hours, rather than having it sent out. With the onsite pharmacy this allows for direct communication and collaboration in coordination in medication management, treatment planning, and addressing any medication-related concerns that may arise during treatment. Benefits of this include timely access to medication, patient education/counseling, adverse event management, and safety assurance.
At the Cancer Center, patients have access to advanced treatment technologies and techniques. The center is equipped with state-of-the-art radiation therapy equipment, including linear accelerators, allowing for precise and targeted treatment delivery. Will have light exposure to all different kinds of cancer, but the practice is going to be mostly Breast, Lung, Prostate & Colon. We do not treat acute leukemia, BMT, Advanced Head & Neck cases, or genealogical cancers. These cases will be referred to UVA in Charlottsville (30 min away) and occasionally to VCU in Richmond, VA.
Meditec is Agusta Health’s current EMR system, however, they will be going to a new system in 2025.

With the current locums' provider, the call will be 1 and 3. For the current providers, calls are considered to be very light, with about 6-8 calls per shift. “And by light, I mean not in terms of intervals, but when they're on call. They don't get that much.” - John Girard, MD, Administrate Director, Cancer Center
