Empowering Minds: Education and Schools in Our Community

Education and Schools

San Antonio offers strong public school options, well-regarded private schools, and a deep set of higher education institutions, including a major medical school and academic health center. Physician families typically have several top-rated district choices within their preferred residential corridors.

Public School Districts

The metro is divided among several large districts. For physician families in the northern and northwest suburbs, the most sought-after options are concentrated in three districts.

  • North East ISD (NEISD): serves Stone Oak, Hollywood Park, and much of the north side. Magnet programs in STEM, medical sciences, engineering, and cybersecurity. Highly rated high schools including Reagan and Johnson.
  • Northside ISD (NISD): the largest district in San Antonio, more than 100,000 students and 120-plus campuses. Strong AP and IB programs and top-rated high schools such as Brandeis and Clark.
  • Alamo Heights ISD (AHISD): a small, high-performing district near downtown with a 98% four-year graduation rate. Often described as having the feel of a private school within a public system.

What This Means for a Physician Family

The combination of multiple top-rated public districts, a deep private school market, and a major academic health center gives relocating families real choice. Within the northern residential corridor, families can pair a strong school district with a short hospital commute, which is the priority most physician households weigh first.
