Physician Recruitment Process and Compensation Overview

Benefis Health System offers a highly competitive compensation model that includes a base salary plus wRVU production incentives. Most providers have averaged between $600,000 and $650,000 on a 4-day work week. The base salary is $500,000 (negotiable for justifiable experience/production logs). The wRVU conversion factor is $52.48 creating a salary threshold at 9,445 wRVUs, and $59.01 for any wRVUs beyond that threshold, providing significant income potential for motivated providers. Generally, contract length is for 2-years, but can be amended contingent upon benefits offered such as signing bonus and student loan repayment. There is always your base salary as the floor, with wRVU production incentives on top, but you can roll off to straight production as soon as you exceed that floor.

Generally, the signing bonus is $40,000 and we can allocate up to $12,000 for relocation expenses to be paid directly to our 3rd party relocation company if desired, otherwise the full sign on bonus is paid on the 1st day of employment. There are a couple of options for student loan repayment: The first is through Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) through working at a 501c3 non-profit entity. The second is directly through the hospital depending on your situation. All incentives are weighed against fair market value and must comply with certain laws, but we work through this to ensure you have the best offer possible. These monies will be tied to your contract length and payback will be based on a prorated basis if you leave early – forgiven once the contract length is fulfilled.

Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance plans are provided, covering a range of needs from single to family options and are detailed in the contract as well as the physician benefits packet. Coverage is available starting on the 1st day of employment if the employee pays the full premium, and Benefis contribution to premium starts on the 1st day of the month following the 60th day of employment.

HSA and FSA accounts are also available. Malpractice insurance with full tail coverage ensures peace of mind for providers. Retirement plans include a 403b with a 5%+ match on contributions, with additional options through a 457b program. Benefis also offers generous paid time off policies, including 8 weeks annually (6 weeks PTO and 2 weeks for CME), allowing providers to take time for rest and professional development. Once you move on to a full production model, time off is at your discretion, but keep in mind taking more or less than 6-8 weeks can factor into your wRVU production and overall compensation.

Additional benefits include an annual CME allowance of $5,000 plus $1,000 for licenses. There is also life insurance with supplemental options, bereavement leave, family and medical leave, short-term and long-term disability, and more. The system also offers physician wellness programs and resources for personal and professional development, along with detailed retirement planning support.
