Clinical Component

Navigating the Clinical Component

There are 3 CRNA’s working every weekend – 2, 16-hour shifts and 1, 24-hour OB shift.

Zachery, one of the CRNA leaders, said that they take great pride in maintaining flexibility in the schedule. Because the shifts are shared, individuals are easily interchangeable, even at short notice. They also assign the shifts equitably between the CRNA’s. The schedule for full time is 80 hours over 2 weeks. A candidate could hypothetically do 2, 24-hour shifts, and 2 16 hour shifts in 1 week and have a whole week off. CRNA’s do not work in the heart room but rotate through all the other surgical cases in the OR. They staff 8 different areas/locations throughout the hospital.

  • 425 Bed Acute Care Hospital
  • EPIC EMR
  • Level III Trauma Center (Will sometimes function as a level II)

Patient volume:

  • OR (Inpatient – Hospital) - 2000-2200 Cases per month
  • ASC (Outpatient – On the Hospital Campus, but not in the Hospital – Connected by a walk over) – 2000-2200 Cases per month.
  • OB – 100 to 150 Deliveries/month (2 c-section suites in OB)
  • Cath Lab – 8 to 20 Cases per Day
  • Endoscopy – 8 to 15 Cases per Day

Typical Schedule:

  • Full time position – 80 hours every 2 weeks
  • No Call
  • CRNA’s rotate in each department (CRNA’s do not do hearts or the PASS Clinic – Pre-Anesthesia Clinic)
  • Shifts Include the Following (The schedule is completed and out months ahead of time):
  • 16-hour shifts – 2 people scheduled every day of the year – 7 am to 11 p.m.
