Hematology/Oncology Practice Overview

  • Outpatient clinic setting with a manageable average volume of 14-16 patients per day
  • The retiring Hematologist saw 251 new patients and 1386 follow-up appointments.
  • Casemix: 70% Oncology & 30% Hematology 
  • Phone call coverage only, The NP takes phone call as well.
  • Outstanding facilities and care capabilities including: 
  • 10-chair infusion center
  • Bone biopsy suite within the clinic
  • Access to advanced hospital imaging: PET/CT, interventional radiology
  • New linear accelerator and 64-slice CT on-site
  • Surgically-trained physicians on staff: General Surgery, Breast Surgery, Thoracic, Colorectal
  • Opportunity to develop ACLS and bone biopsy procedure skills
  • Bone biopsies are done in the Cath lab currently. There is also a procedure room in the dept, and the incoming physician has the choice to do them in the procedure room in the clinic
  • Collaborating physicians at CHRISTUS St Vincent in Santa Fe; and can also work with other system wide physicians across CHRISTUS. 
  • MOSAIQ EMR (Cancer Center), Cerner EMR (hospital), Athena EMR (clinics)
  • Employed position with flexible 4-day weekly schedule option available 

Facilities & Operations 

  • Hematology/Oncology clinic located in CHRISTUS Cancer Center
  • 10-chair infusion center with dedicated RN staff
  • Bone biopsy suite and access to interventional radiology
  • New linear accelerator, 64-slice CT, 1.5T MRI on-site
  • PET/CT imaging, hospital-based pharmacy with IV suite 

Support Services 

  • General, breast, thoracic, and colorectal surgeons on staff
  • Interventional radiology coverage
  • Inpatient dialysis unit with 8 chairs/2 private rooms 

Call Structure 

  • Call is managed by call service (nurse call line) 
  • Very minimal- on rare occasions if the service line needs additional consult, they will call provider 
  • Phone triage/consultation calls only, no inpatient rounding 

Clinic Operations 

  • Monday-Thursday 8am-5pm, Friday 8am-12pm
  • 100% Outpatient 
  • See 14-16 established patients per day on average
  • Option for 4-day work week schedule 

Skills & Technology 

  • Bone marrow biopsy skills required
  • ACLS certification required
  • EMRs: MOSAIQ (Cancer Center), Cerner (hospital), Athena (clinics) 

Compensation & Benefits 

  • $516,000 base salary
  • RVU production model: 5,432 wRVU threshold at $95/wRVU
  • $5,000 potential annual quality/satisfaction bonus
  • $75,000 student loan assistance over 3 years
