Senior Dermatopathologist
Anatomic and Clinical Pathologist
As Medical Director and Pathology Group Leader at CND Life Sciences, you'll lead a talented and diverse team of pathologists who share your commitment to diagnostic excellence and patient care. The current team includes six full-time or near full-time pathologists with varied backgrounds and specialties, creating a rich environment for professional collaboration and knowledge exchange. This team is strategically positioned across multiple locations, with two pathologists based in Boston, three working remotely, and one in Scottsdale, allowing for flexible coverage and diverse perspectives. The team is complemented by three to four contract pathologists, primarily working remotely with one based locally, who provide additional support and specialized expertise.
You're joining CND at an exciting time of projected expansion, with plans to double the full-time pathology staff by 2027. This growth trajectory offers you the opportunity to shape the department's culture, recruitment strategy, and professional development programs. Unlike static departments where leadership positions offer little opportunity for team building, at CND you'll have the chance to select and mentor new team members, create a cohesive departmental identity, and establish systems that support both quality and efficiency as the organization scales.
The pathology team at CND operates in a collaborative environment that emphasizes shared knowledge and mutual support. Team members regularly consult with each other on challenging cases, contributing to both diagnostic accuracy and professional development. You'll find colleagues who are open to innovation, committed to quality improvement, and eager to advance the field of neurodiagnostics through their daily work. This culture of collaboration extends beyond the pathology department to include meaningful interaction with laboratory operations, medical affairs, and research teams.
Your pathology team brings diverse backgrounds and specialized knowledge to CND's unique diagnostic work. Team members have experience in various settings including academic institutions, large health systems, and private laboratories, creating a rich knowledge base to draw upon. The current team includes pathologists with interest or expertise in neuropathology, dermatopathology, and digital pathology, complementing CND's focus on cutaneous neurodiagnostics. As leader, you'll leverage this diverse expertise while developing the team's specialized knowledge of CND's proprietary testing methods.
Your pathology team is supported by skilled laboratory technicians and a dedicated Pathology Operations Team that coordinates workflow, manages administrative details, and optimizes efficiency. This operational support allows you and your pathologists to focus on diagnostic work rather than administrative tasks. The Pathology Operations Team serves as a critical bridge between technical staff and pathologists, ensuring smooth communication and workflow management. As department leader, you'll work closely with operations leadership to continually refine systems and processes.
At CND Life Sciences, you'll join a leadership team that values medical expertise and fosters professional autonomy. Company founders remain actively involved, including neurologist founders who contribute their clinical perspective to diagnostic development. The senior leadership team includes your direct report, the Chief Medical Officer, as well as the Chief Scientific Officer, SVP of Operations, and SVP of Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance, creating a collaborative executive environment. As Medical Director, you'll be a respected voice in this leadership team, with meaningful input into strategic decisions affecting pathology services.
Your work at CND Life Sciences will place you among a distinguished leadership team with diverse expertise. You'll report directly to Todd D. Levine, MD, Chief Medical Officer and Co-Founder, who brings both clinical neurology expertise and company vision to his role. You'll work closely with Christopher Gibbons, MD, Chief Scientific Officer and Co-Founder, a respected neurologist whose scientific leadership has been instrumental in developing CND's innovative testing methods. The current pathology team includes Dr. Andrew Thompson, Senior Dermatopathologist, and Sarah Jelliffe, DO, Staff Pathologist, whom you'll lead while building out the department. Additional key leadership colleagues include Richard J. Morello, Chief Executive Officer; Sowmya Arunakumar, SVP of Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance; Steve Mastrian, Director of Research; and Bailey Bellaire, Director of Digital Pathology Operations & Process Engineering.
Leading this skilled and diverse pathology team represents a distinctive career opportunity that combines clinical expertise with genuine leadership impact. Rather than joining a rigid, established hierarchy where change comes slowly, you'll shape a growing department during a pivotal expansion phase. The collaborative relationships across disciplines, the direct access to company founders, and the chance to build your own team of specialists offers professional fulfillment rarely found in traditional pathology settings. At CND Life Sciences, you'll not only advance your own expertise but will mentor others and create a lasting impact on both your team and the field of neurodegenerative diagnostics.
