Central Peninsula General Hospital is recruiting one or two full-time, hospital-employed Urologists to build out a permanent urology service line in Soldotna, Alaska. The practice has been held together by a single employed physician who is winding down, a part-time independent contractor, and rotating locums coverage. The hospital has made it clear this is not a sustainable model and is looking for physicians ready to establish a permanent, productive practice. A candidate who has previously interviewed for this position signed a contract that was never fulfilled; the position is genuinely open and ready for the right fit.
The existing employed urologist, Dr. Katoff, has been with CPH for many years and is beginning to ratchet down his schedule. He is stepping back from a full-time role but remains active and is a strong ambassador for the practice, personally engaging with every candidate who comes through. His ongoing presence provides a meaningful transition opportunity for incoming physicians. The hospital also had a contract with a urologist who ultimately could not relocate due to immigration complications with his spouse, and that position remains open. With approximately 15 primary care physicians in the community feeding referrals, the hospital is confident there is sufficient volume for two urologists.

The hospital is open to a range of experience levels and backgrounds. A physician earlier in their career who wants to build something from the ground up is as welcome as a more established urologist looking for a change of pace. The hospital noted that it would be particularly valuable to find two candidates who already know each other and would want to practice together, though that is not a requirement.
Previous candidates did not accept the position for personal or family reasons unrelated to the practice itself, not due to political friction or practice culture concerns. Dr. Katoff has been described as a welcoming presence for every candidate who has visited. The hospital leadership is aligned on compensation and expectations, and the search is straightforward from a process standpoint. Candidates who are productive in a wRVU model stand to earn well above the base guarantee.
