Your clinical practice at CarolinaEast will immerse you in the full spectrum of general cardiology while providing the technological infrastructure and team support that makes complex care feel manageable. Whether you choose the clinic-focused model or the mixed hospital-clinic approach, you'll enjoy comprehensive cardiovascular medicine without the productivity pressures or administrative burdens common in many cardiology settings.
In the clinic-based model, your day typically runs from 8:15–8:30 AM to 4:30–5:00 PM with a protected lunch from 12:00–1:00 PM. You’ll see 14–16 patients daily, including 3–4 new patients with 30-minute slots and follow-ups in 15–20 minute blocks. New physicians start with a higher volume of new patients to rapidly build their panel. The Epic EMR system, integrated with Dragon voice recognition, ensures efficient documentation and diagnostics.
For the hospital-based model, you’ll alternate clinic weeks with hospital weeks, working 1 out of every 3 in-hospital. Hospital weeks involve 10–20 consults per day, with APP support during weekdays and weekends to ensure comprehensive team coverage. Responsibilities include consults, TEEs, cardioversions, and full inpatient cardiovascular management.
Serving a diverse patient population across eastern North Carolina, the practice spans from preventive cardiology to complex structural and heart failure care. You’ll access two cath labs (soon three), two EP labs, and cardiac surgical support, ensuring seamless care across specialties with minimal referral delays.
Advanced Practice Integration: APPs act as true physician extenders, handling routine cases and follow-ups, allowing you to focus on complex patients and new consults while enhancing productivity and care quality.
This clinical environment strikes the ideal balance between advanced cardiovascular medicine and sustainable practice – where team-based care and modern technology drive both outcomes and professional satisfaction.
