Position Overview

Position Overview

Candidate Parameters: Fellowship trained and board certified/eligible in gastroenterology.  2024 and 2025 candidates accepted as well as those currently practicing.  J1 and H1B candidates accepted.  Can have advanced endoscopy fellowship (EUS/ERCP) but doesn’t have to.  ERCP and experienced candidates would be preferred.

Typical Schedule:

  • Full time position – Monday thru Thursday 8am-5pm and Friday 8am-noon
  • 36 Patient Contact Hours – 4 Admin Hours/week
  • 1:5 Call (currently 1:4) - Consult Only Service - No Admissions.

Practice Details:

  • 50/50 split on clinic lab/endoscopy.
  • The clinic can schedule, depending on the physician’s comfort level, up to 20+ patients in an 8-hour day.
  • Approximately 5000 endoscopy cases per year – 500 inpatient/4500 outpatient
  • 100+ ERCP (only one physician doing these) and 250+ EUS (only one physician doing these now)
  • Backlog of 700-1000 GI referrals.
  • CMC Cancer Center is affiliated with Duke Health Network, which allows for cancer cases to stay in network and local to the area versus referring out.
  • Candidates can do a general GI practice.  Dr. Yacabone is the only provider currently doing ERCP’s, so it is strongly preferred that the new GI do those procedures as well.  Dr. Malone does all the EUS cases, and the hospital only has 1 room and machine, so EUS is not a must.  If someone does EUS, there is an option to do those procedures at CMC. *The NPs see patients in the clinic and help schedule referrals and follow up with patients in a timely manner.

CMC – Endoscopy:

  • Renovated in 2022
  • Currently 4 procedure rooms and 8 holding rooms (pre and post operative area)
  • Scopes – Olympus 180 and 190 series (HD scopes)
  • C-Arm is available in the hospital.
  • All procedures done in the endoscopy suites are done with Propofol.  Those done in other areas of the hospital, like the ICU are done with conscious sedation. Closed ICU and CCU.
