The medical practice operates on a structured schedule, running from Monday to Friday, with hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Currently staffed by four locum tenens physicians, the practice has room to accommodate one more full-time doctor.
The current call expectation is 1:4 and it is established that the pediatrician on call is present during deliveries and cesarean sections. With 385 deliveries in the past year, the practice demonstrates proficiency in obstetric care. When I spoke with the team on how often they go in for a delivery or c-section they said it varies. At times you won’t have any, or you might have 3-4 deliveries. The practice delegates hospitalist admissions to the emergency department, emphasizing its commitment to community-based healthcare. The on-call physician plays a vital role in rounding, ensuring continuity of care for patients requiring hospitalization.
Facility-wise, the practice is well-equipped with 8 examination rooms, providing a conducive environment for patient consultations and medical examinations. A dedicated medical assistant contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of patient care, ensuring that the physicians can focus on their clinical responsibilities. The physicians maintain a robust schedule, with 36 hours of patient contact each week, seeing an average of 15-20 patients per day at a rate of 2 patients per hour. This approach allows the physicians to provide comprehensive care, addressing both routine medical needs and complex cases, ensuring the well-being of their diverse patient population.
One thing the physicians at Good Sheperd appreciate is the variety of cases on a day-to-day basis. Although being comfortable with ADHD patients is highly preferred, you will experience more unique cases than just asthma, allergies, or disruptive mood disorder. This balanced approach allows for both an exciting work environment and quality of care.
