Howard Brown is currently seeking Medical Directors for their “New Halsted” and Clark location on the Northside of Chicago. These are 100% outpatient positions with approximately 70% clinical and 30% protected administrative time.

Clinical Time

  • Ample time to see complex patients: 40-minute new / 20-minute follow up
  • You’ll have patient care coordinators to assist with any other needs your patients have after their visits (see services below).
  • EMR: Epic
  • You’ll have a dedicated MA to assist along with an RN.
  • Most visits will be in person but there may be some tele-health visits. They will have telehealth offices onsite to conduct those visits.
  • Call: Phone Call Only, spread across multiple clinics.
    • 1:14 (1 day every 14 days) – this will likely be less frequent as the group grows
    • Highly Efficient Telephonic, On-Call System that Covers the Service Area

Medical Director (New Halsted)

  • This is a brand-new site, scheduled to open September 2023. Ideally, they can have the new Medical Director start 3-6 months before that to conduct training and get up to speed.
    • **On their website, their existing “Halsted” location will be renamed “Melrose”, when “New Halsted” opens later this year.
  • You will oversee Primary Care for the clinic and also have a co-Site Director, William, because it will HBH’s largest site to date.
  • Clinic: 5 stories, 2 stories with be Primary Care with some Behavioral Health providers. 13 providers each floor (26 total). 
    • 1st floor: Pharmacy, community-facing lab, and waiting room.
    • 4th floor: Dental
    • 5th floor: Administrative offices 
  • They are seeking someone who has existing Leadership experience because of the Primary Care team this size. They are looking someone who believes hands-on leadership and mentorship. You will also have assistance from the co-Site Director to oversee staff and help shape protocols.
  • Also, unique to New Halsted’s location, it gets a higher mix of private insurance in their payor mix (nearly 40-45%). These are loyal patients that would prefer to get care at HBH instead of Northwestern.  

Medical Director (Clark)

  • You will oversee Primary Care for the clinic, including 10 providers. 

What can you expect

A Site Medical Director provides clinical and administrative leadership to Howard Brown Health Center and is responsible for the quality of care provided to participants in Primary Care at the assigned site, and for the clinical productivity of the medical provider clinical site staff.

A Site Medical Director is a licensed professional prepared in a specialty residency program that manages actual and potential health problems based on the specialty area. The health conditions include common, complex, or advanced diseases needing intensive medical supervision of the prescribed treatment plan. A Site Medical Director practices independently and interdependently by collaborating with advanced practice clinicians, community health nurses, and other health care providers. This role is ultimately responsible for delivering medical care within the legal parameters established by the Illinois Medical Practice Act and also provides direct patient care. As a Physician, the Site Medical Director delivers quality primary health care services to special populations, emphasizing the prevention and treatment of disease. The Physician's role in a community setting responds to society's demand for accessible quality health care to all populations regardless of socio-economic status. Individual accountabilities and work volumes will be established by developing annual success objectives within the framework outlined below. 

How you will make an impact: Clinical and administrative leadership duties

  • Measures and monitors the quality of patient care services in Primary Care Services at the assigned clinical location, primarily the care offered by HBHC providers, including Physicians, Advanced Practice Nurses, and Physician Assistants. Meets regularly with providers to review care standards and performance, approximately two one-on-one sessions per direct report per month.
  • Directly supervises Physicians, Physician Assistants, and Advanced Practice Nurses practicing at the site.
  • Measures and monitors clinical productivity of provider staff, including Physicians, Physician Assistants, and Advanced Practice Nurses.
  • Develops productivity standards along with the Chief Medical Officer and reports regularly on performance relative to standards set by HBHC. Meets regularly with providers to review standards and performance.
  • Collaborates with the Integrated Health Care team in program planning, monitoring, and evaluating primary health care services, including implementing Patient-Centered Medical Home and Meaningful Use at the clinical site and clinical quality initiatives.
  • Provides direct care for patients at the site for 28 clinical contact hours and 12 administrative hours per week for 40 hours per week.
  • Attends and participates in the Medical Leadership weekly meetings and other leadership meetings as required. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Medical Director supervises the Physicians and Mid-Level Providers and other staff as needed for the assigned clinical site.
