MedStar Medical Group is recruiting a Regional Medical Director for the Echo Lab to lead echocardiography across the four-hospital MedStar Baltimore region and the system’s ambulatory cardiology practices.
The role is based at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital and expands the prior inpatient-only directorship into an enterprise role covering both inpatient and outpatient echocardiography.
Setting: Hospital-employed with MedStar Medical Group, regional leadership role
Primary site: MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, Baltimore, MD
Administrative oversight: MedStar Good Samaritan, MedStar Harbor, MedStar Franklin Square, and 8 to 9 ambulatory cardiology sites
Clinical/admin split: Approximately 80 percent clinical, 20 percent administrative, negotiable to 70/30
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Call: Minimal call burden, negotiable
Team oversight: Approximately 20 non-invasive cardiologists across the regional echo reading group
EMR: Cerner, transitioning to Epic in 2026
You will lead the regional echocardiography program for MedStar Health’s Baltimore Region. Primary responsibilities include quality, safety, standardization, metrics and benchmarks, and accreditation oversight across four hospital echo labs and the system’s 8 to 9 ambulatory cardiology echo sites. Clinical work centers on the Union Memorial echo lab, which functions as the inpatient reading center for the regional service line.
The role is structured with flexibility on the clinical and administrative balance. The incoming director can opt for a 100 percent echocardiography practice or maintain a separate clinical or hospital service presence based on personal preference. The role can also be paired with a structural echocardiography clinical practice for candidates with that expertise.
