Established in 1968, Northeast Missouri Health Council (NMHC) has grown from a small medical clinic into a comprehensive, not-for-profit health center serving residents of Northeast Missouri. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and a Community Health Center, NMHC plays a crucial role in providing healthcare services to the community. With a HPSA Score of 21, they are able to employ National Health Scholars. One unique aspect of NMHC is that they are the primary provider for Ob/Gyn and Pediatrics in Kirksville and the surrounding communities, resulting in a high private payer mix like a hospital-owned practice. However, their Dental and Family Practice services align more closely with FQHC/CMC standards. NMHC has received several awards and recognitions, including being NCQA Recognized for Diabetes and Patient Centered Medical Home, as well as being a four-time recipient (2015-2018) of the HRSA National Quality Leader award, placing them in the top 2% of Community Health Centers.
NMHC operates clinic sites in Kirksville, Macon, Kahoka, Edina, and Milan, serving as the county seat for each respective location. Their service area covers 11 counties with an approximate population of 72,000. NMHC operates various clinic locations, including specialty groups for Ob/Gyn, Family Health, Pediatrics, Dental, Diabetes & Nutrition, and Behavioral Health. They employ a diverse team of healthcare providers, including dentists, dental hygienists, Ob/Gyns, nurse practitioners, family practitioners, dieticians, social workers, psychologists, and pediatricians. NMHC utilizes the NextGen/QSI electronic medical records system, while the Northeast Regional Medical Center, a hospital affiliated with NMHC, uses McKesson.
