Board-certified Interventional Cardiologist with five years or more of experience. This is a clinical leadership role with the majority of responsibility being clinical (they guarantee at least 10% leadership). We prefer someone with leadership experience but will consider candidates without if they have the other pre-requisites. The preference is for someone with experience at an Academic Research Medical Center. They are looking for someone who can elevate the program and take it in a global strategic direction.
You will supervise Cardiologists, Fellows, Residents and Students, and have the opportunity to teach Residents and Fellows (there are currently three Fellows and about 22 Residents). You will see 16-18 patients a day, with a Fellow, 50% of which are new patients. Initial consults are 30 minutes. Ochsner is a closed medical system and about 35% of referrals are external. Call is a full week, 1:5 currently and will go to 1:6. STEMI call is one day per week. There is no clinic when you are on call. The Interventional Cardiologists are in the CCU rotation and cover three weeks a year. There is no General Cardiology call.
At the main campus there are five cath labs, EP, Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiovascular Surgery. Besides the Interventional Cardiologists, only the Vascular Surgeons do peripheral vascular procedures, no Cardiac Surgeons or Interventional Radiologists. If you have an interest in Clinical trials/research it is available, and you can be as active as you want.
Ochsner utilizes Epic for their EMR software, making it possible for every patient to have a single, comprehensive medical record that informs and is informed by their health experiences. The goal is higher-quality, more personalized care that’s simpler for patients, medical professionals, and everyone who makes healthcare happen.
