Main Campus – Thomas Campus (Phoenix)
The Main Campus, located in central Phoenix, is a 433+ licensed bed facility and serves as the flagship of the Phoenix Children’s health system. Built in 2011, the hospital has undergone extensive expansions, including the addition of 212,000 sq. ft. in 2023 and 100 more inpatient beds slated for 2024. The hospital features five dedicated floors for Med-Surg care, handling 100-150 patients daily, and up to 180 patients during peak winter seasons.
The Main Campus is home to Arizona’s only Level IV NICU, which spans 48 rooms and includes an ECMO program and a Neuro NICU. This facility also features a 48-bed CVICU for complex cardiac cases. The main campus’ Emergency Department is equipped with a robust team of specialists and state-of-the-art imaging, surgical, and diagnostic services. Hospitalists at the Main Campus are key members of a collaborative medical team, contributing to admissions, discharges, and emergency responses. Additionally, this site offers the chance to work alongside learners such as medical students and residents in approximately 40-50% of shifts, creating opportunities for teaching and mentorship.
Arrowhead Campus (West Valley in Glendale)
Opened in August 2024, Arrowhead Campus is a 175,000 sq. ft. facility located in Glendale, serving the rapidly growing West Valley region. Initially designed with 24 inpatient beds, the hospital is set to expand to 48 beds by early 2025 to meet increasing demand. The facility includes a 12-bed PICU, 30 treatment rooms in the ED, six operating rooms, and two minor procedure rooms, making it a full-service children’s hospital capable of handling high-acuity pediatric cases.
The Arrowhead Campus is expected to serve more than 72,000 patients annually and provides a wide range of pediatric subspecialties, including some that were previously unavailable in the Northwest Valley. This hospital is a key component of Phoenix Children’s expansion strategy and provides an opportunity to work in a growing community with state-of-the-art technology and collaborative care models. Physicians will have access to comprehensive imaging services, including CT, echocardiography, nuclear medicine, and ultrasound.
East Valley Campus (Mercy-Gilbert)
Set to open in Q1 2025, the East Valley Campus is located in Gilbert and will offer advanced pediatric care to families in the rapidly expanding East Valley region. This hospital will feature a Level IIIB NICU, equipped to provide care for newborns with moderate to severe health challenges, and an L&D unit where hospitalists will round on newborns.
In addition to its inpatient services, the East Valley Campus will feature 22 inpatient beds, an outpatient clinic, and advanced imaging facilities. Like the other two campuses, this hospital will provide a full suite of pediatric subspecialties and round-the-clock emergency care. Hospitalists working here will play a critical role in building the foundation of the hospital’s reputation and in meeting the healthcare needs of this growing region.
Working Across Three Innovative Campuses
Hospitalists in the Phoenix Children’s system will have the flexibility to work across all three locations: Main Campus, Arrowhead, and Mercy-Gilbert. With block scheduling that includes a mix of day, admission, and night shifts, hospitalists can expect a variety of experiences, from handling complex cases at the main hospital to providing crucial care at the newer satellite campuses. On average, hospitalists will work 137 hours per month, with a typical split of 75% at the main campus and 25% at satellite facilities, though PCH offers flexibility for those who prefer to work more shifts at a particular site.
This diverse and collaborative system offers hospitalists a rewarding blend of clinical care, teaching, and the chance to make a real impact in one of the nation's fastest-growing pediatric health systems. Phoenix Children’s is on the path to becoming one of the top five largest pediatric health systems in the U.S. by 2025, making this an exceptional opportunity for hospitalists seeking both professional growth and clinical excellence.
