Portneuf Medical Center

Pocatello, Idaho

Practice big-program cardiology in the mountain West.

Position Overview

Practice general cardiology in a four-day outpatient clinic backed by one-to-one APP support and a full interventional and EP program. This hospital-employed role pairs a manageable call schedule with the kind of complex cardiac care most small communities cannot offer. You round on a rotating basis rather than carrying inpatients alongside clinic, and a fully outpatient arrangement is available. It is built for a physician who wants to put down roots and grow a practice in a setting where the hospital invests in keeping its cardiologists supported and well equipped.

Healthcare System Overview

Portneuf Medical Center is southeastern Idaho's regional referral center, serving roughly 300,000 people as the only hospital in the immediate area. Its Heart and Vascular Institute delivers interventional, structural, and electrophysiology cardiology with on-site open-heart support, keeping complex cases in-house rather than transferring them. The program runs a full Siemens cath lab fleet, a newly built EP lab, and a structural heart service that includes TAVR and Watchman. Physicians here describe responsive administration, strong staffing, and a program that consistently handles more than its size would suggest.

Community Overview

Pocatello pairs small-town ease with real outdoor access. Trailheads sit at the edge of town, Pebble Creek ski hill is 20 minutes away, and world-class trout fishing and a boating reservoir are a short drive out. Housing costs run well below the national average, so a physician income stretches much further here than in a major metro. The public schools outperform the state, Idaho State University anchors the cultural calendar, and commutes are short. For physicians who want a safe, family-oriented community with the outdoors at the doorstep, it delivers.
