Position Overview

Understanding the Role

San Bernardino Gastroenterology Associates is seeking a general gastroenterologist to join an established, physician-owned private practice in the Inland Empire. The group has served the San Bernardino community for over three decades and now covers a growing volume of hospital and outpatient patients across the region. This hire expands hospital coverage and adds office capacity as service demand increases.

The practice pairs true private practice autonomy with an academic teaching component. The group sponsors the Gastroenterology and Hepatology fellowship at the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine, giving the incoming physician the option to teach while building a full clinical practice. This is not a corporate or employed-model setting. Physicians here make decisions quickly, cover for one another, and share a patient-first culture.

Specialty: General Gastroenterology

Offices: Rialto and Redlands

ASC: ACE Endoscopy & Surgery Center (on-site, Rialto)

Position Type: Growth, added coverage

Why This Role Exists

  • Hospital service volume is expected to rise, requiring additional GI coverage
  • Office patient demand in Rialto and Redlands continues to grow
  • New patient wait times in the area run 8 to 12 weeks, reflecting strong demand
  • The group wants outside perspective and training to complement its current team

Practice Setting

The group operates two outpatient offices, in Rialto and Redlands, and an on-site ambulatory surgery center, ACE Endoscopy & Surgery Center, at the Rialto location. Physicians see clinic patients and perform the majority of their procedures within the practice, with hospital coverage layered on top. The new physician may work primarily out of either office depending on preference and practice need, with Redlands positioned directly across from Redlands Community Hospital to make outpatient hospital coverage efficient.

Hospital Coverage

The group covers four hospitals, with fellows serving as primary call and attendings providing backup and procedural coverage.

Hospital Location Coverage
Arrowhead Regional Medical Center Colton Full time
St. Bernardine Medical Center San Bernardino Full time
Community Hospital of San Bernardino San Bernardino Two weeks per month
Redlands Community Hospital Redlands Two weeks per month

Work Schedule

  • Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
  • A typical week blends clinic days, procedure days at the ASC, and hospital coverage
  • Clinic days run 15 to 18 patients; procedure days run 7 to 12 scopes
  • Physicians manage their own pace within a collegial, self-directed structure

Qualifications

  • BC/BE in Gastroenterology
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited GI fellowship
  • Comfort performing, or willingness to be trained in, moderate (conscious) sedation
  • General GI skill set; ERCP experience is a plus and increases compensation
  • Fit with a collaborative, autonomous private practice culture and long-term commitment

Path to Partnership

The practice offers a defined track to ownership, a differentiator in a market dominated by employed models.

  • Partnership consideration begins after three years (earlier for physicians who trained in the group's fellowship)
  • Criteria include clinical skill, independence, participation, and collegiality
  • Partners share in practice profits and gain a voice in practice decisions
  • A separate ASC ownership opportunity follows practice partnership
