The Advanced Heart Failure Program at Sentara Healthcare is offering an esteemed career opportunity for the role of Program Director for Advanced Heart Failure. This prestigious position is a part of strategic enhancements within the program focusing on advanced heart failure, mechanical circulatory support, and heart transplantation. The candidates ideally should be Board Certified in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology, bringing a minimum of three to five years of experience from a center with an active role in advanced heart failure, heart transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support.

Sentara Healthcare stands as a fully integrated and revered healthcare system, consisting of 12 hospitals, an exclusive insurance plan, and a large multi-specialty Medical Group with over 1300 physicians, along with several long-term care facilities. The program itself is centralized in the Heart Zone at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Sentara Healthcare’s flagship hospital with 686 beds.

The Advanced Heart Failure Program is a central pillar of Sentara's cardiac services, offering a comprehensive outpatient clinic designed for the long-term care of transplant, left ventricular assist device, and advanced heart failure patients. The clinic manages nearly 10,000 patient visits annually and operates additional satellite clinics across Virginia, offering expansive and accessible care.

Sentara’s Heart Transplant Program has a commendable record, having performed more than 500 transplants since 1989. The Heart Zone is fitted with advanced facilities including state-of-the-art catheterization laboratories, cardiac operating rooms, a Hybrid Operating room, and Electrophysiology laboratories, complemented by the cutting-edge Cardiac Advanced Imaging Center.

The program's team is a diverse and specialized group, including five transplant cardiologists and four heart transplant/VAD surgeons, all working cohesively to provide unparalleled care. These specialists are integrated within Sentara Cardiology Specialists, a network covering 13 practice locations and representing a spectrum of cardiology specialties.

The role also provides the opportunity to delve into extensive research projects, exploring innovative therapies for acute and chronic heart failure, with support available for original research initiatives.

Administratively, the position involves leadership in various committees, participation in quality and executive meetings for the Heart Hospital and the Transplant Program, program development, outreach and program-building activities, quality improvement, clinical pathway development, heart failure research administration, and contributing at a national level in research and discussions.
