Physician Recruitment Process and Compensation Overview

The compensation and benefits package for the Family Medicine position at Sentara Medical Group is designed to offer financial security, career stability, and substantial earning potential. The base salary for this role is $257,500 annually, with the potential to earn over $300,000 per year, including wRVU production bonuses. This ensures that physicians are compensated not only for their time but also for their productivity and the quality of care they provide. In addition, a $20,000 quality incentive is available, further rewarding physicians for delivering high-quality care and achieving patient outcomes.

In addition to a competitive salary, Sentara offers a range of financial incentives aimed at supporting both immediate and long-term financial well-being: 

  • A $20,000 sign-on bonus, which is paid upon signing the contract.
  • A $20,000 commencement bonus, which is paid after the physician’s start date.
  • It is important to note that both bonuses are subject to taxation upon payment.
  • Annual retention bonuses of $20,000 for the first five years, providing financial incentives for long-term service.
  • Paid malpractice insurance, including tail coverage, ensuring comprehensive protection throughout the physician’s tenure.
  • Public Student Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) eligibility, allowing physicians to benefit from federal loan forgiveness programs, a valuable option for those with educational debt.

Although Sentara no longer offers relocation assistance due to tax regulations, the increased sign-on bonus provides additional funds to cover moving expenses. Sentara also offers a 401K retirement plan with an unspecified employer match, providing an essential resource for long-term retirement planning.

The benefits package includes paid time off, health and wellness benefits, and allowances for Continuing Medical Education (CME), licenses, dues, and fees.
