The Rheumatology practice at Sentara RMH Medical Center offers a rich and diverse clinical experience. You'll encounter a wide variety of cases, more varied than those typically seen in renowned institutions, providing an opportunity for continuous learning and professional growth.

Patient care is at the heart of this practice. You'll serve a diverse patient population, with referrals coming from locations up to an hour away, testament to the practice's excellent reputation. The patient mix ensures a stimulating caseload, allowing you to apply your expertise across the full spectrum of rheumatological conditions.

A typical day in this practice is both busy and rewarding. You can expect to see between 15-20 patients daily, with ample time allocated for thorough patient care. New patient evaluations typically last 40-60 minutes, allowing for comprehensive assessments, while follow-up appointments are efficiently managed in 20-minute slots.

The call schedule is notably light, with only 2-3 after-hour calls per month. This manageable call burden contributes significantly to work-life balance, a key feature of this position. Inpatient responsibilities are also minimal, with just 1-2 consults per month, allowing you to focus primarily on your outpatient practice.

To support your clinical work, you'll have access to state-of-the-art facilities and resources. The practice utilizes the Epic electronic medical record system, ensuring seamless and efficient patient information management. Additionally, you'll benefit from easy access to Radiology services, facilitating quick and accurate diagnoses. 

Sentara RMH provides several on-site resources that enhance the efficiency and comprehensiveness of patient care:

  • An onsite laboratory, allowing for quick and convenient testing and results.
  • Access to ultrasound technology, enabling more accurate diagnoses and guided procedures when necessary.
  • An onsite infusion center, staffed by specialized nurses trained in complex biologic therapies. This facility allows for convenient administration of biologic therapies, crucial for treating various autoimmune diseases. It enables integrated care, close monitoring, and prompt treatment adjustments, enhancing patient convenience and potentially improving treatment adherence. 

The clinical support structure is robust, with experienced staff to assist in patient care and practice management. This support allows you to focus on what you do best - providing high-quality care to your patients.
