The Anesthesia team treats an average of 4-5 cases per day and a wide range of cases, but primarily General, Orthopedics, Gastroenterology, Urology, Plastics, healthy Pediatrics, and some Interventional. The Anesthesiologists do not treat cardiology (hearts), neurology (heads), or OB (as of September 2023) at this facility. The Anesthesiologists weekly staff 4 ORs and they block the OR schedule 30 days in advance.
The Anesthesiologists supervise the CRNAs, but CRNAs manage their own cases. Greg Bruno, Chief CRNA, described the typical situation as the Anesthesiologist completes the patient’s pre-operative assessment and the CRNA runs the case with the Anesthesiology acting as a safety net and is immediately available if needed. The current CRNA team was described as very experienced (but it was also noted that the team is far from being complete). The ideal Anesthesiologist will be skilled in general, regional, and neuro-axial techniques and acute pain management.
The schedule will be Monday through Friday, with shifts beginning at 7:30 AM and ending at 3:30 PM. However, they have at least one Anesthesiologist available for surgeries until 5:30 PM.
1:5 Weekday and Weekend
Anesthesiologists take first call and CRNAs take second call and that Anesthesiologists can expect to take call one night per week (1:5) and 1:5 weekends (Saturday/Sunday). It was noted that when there are fewer than 5 Anesthesiologists on staff that Anesthesiologists are encouraged to pick up additional nights of call for extra compensation.
Post call pay is a flat $225 per hour and if there is less than 5 Anesthesiologists, TeamHealth offers a shift incentive for taking extra call of $1,000 per weekday/hours worked paid at $225 per hour and $1,500 per weekend day/hours worked paid at $225 per hour.
