The Hospital's Bone/Joint Center operates from 8 am to 5 pm and offers a range of specialized therapies and services, including aquatic therapy, occupational therapy, orthopedics, pain management, PT, speech therapy, and sports medicine. The Surgery Center within the facility boasts six operating rooms and four endoscopy suites, providing comprehensive surgical capabilities.
The need for recruitment arises from the growing demand for services in the community. The decision to expand the practice is driven by the increasing patient load, and the current team includes experienced medical professionals. Dr. McGuirk has been an integral part of the practice for over a decade, and Jessica Walker serves as the Nurse Practitioner (NP) supporting the team. In addition to the orthopedic surgeons, the practice comprises two podiatrists, four general orthopedic surgeons who take their own call, and two sports orthopedic surgeons.
As part of the position overview, the recruited surgeons will work exclusively at one location, streamlining their practice by attending only one clinic, hospital, surgery center, or operating room. The call responsibilities will be shared with Dr. McGuirk currently handling one week of call duties. The nature of the call duties allows for flexibility, with many cases being resolved remotely, and the hand surgeon often advises the Emergency Department on appropriate patient management. Consequently, hand surgeons are rarely called in, and most weeks remain relatively free from emergency call requirements.
The typical weekly schedule for the recruited surgeons will comprise 2.5 days in the clinic and 2.5 days performing surgeries in the OR. The expected patient volume per day for the NP is around 20 to 25, while for the hand surgeon, it ranges from 32 or more. In terms of surgeries, one hand surgeon has performed 830 procedures per year, while the other accomplished 730. On average, hand surgeons currently handle approximately 17 to 20 surgeries per week, but with increased OR time, this number could rise to up to 25 surgeries per week, meeting the growing demand for specialized orthopedic care.
