Navigating the Clinical Component

  • Patient Population: The Pediatric Hospitalist will care for newborns and pediatric patients, including stable late preterm infants born at 35–36 weeks GA.
  • Pediatric Unit: The pediatric floor has 4–8 beds with intermediate care capabilities and an average census of 3-4, which may increase during respiratory season.
  • NICU: The Level 3 NICU has 8–10 beds and cares for infants as young as 25 weeks GA. The NICU team is available 24/7 and attends all high-risk deliveries.
  • ER Consults: Provide pediatric consultations for a busy ER with 60,000 annual visits, including around 9,000 pediatric cases and a 6% pediatric admission rate.
  • Teaching Responsibilities: The Pediatric hospitalist will work with 3rd and 4th-year medical students as well as Family Medicine residents. Internal Medicine residents will begin rotations in 2025, providing further teaching opportunities.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent
  • State medical license and DEA by start
  • Completed Pediatric residency
  • Board certified / eligible in Pediatrics
  • Preferred board certified / eligible Pediatric Hospitalist Medicine
