Baptist Stuttgart has a substantial need for a full time General Surgeon to be on site and at least live in the surrounding area on a consistent basis. For other providers, Kevin Storey, CEO, has been spearheading the flexible schedule to provide a work-life balance for each of his providers. For instance, a full time OBGYN had a 10 day on, 4 day off schedule to accommodate her needs. An incoming GS can expect to see roughly 5 surgeries per day, mostly on an outpatient basis to begin with. The most common procedures are laparoscopic, including gallbladder removal, appendectomies, colorectal surgery, and hernias. There are a minimum of 2 RNs on staff and available at all hours of the day, and will help with phone triage and scheduling assistance.
An incoming General Surgeon can expect to have at least an 80-20 split of outpatient surgeries to inpatient surgeries, as most ER visits are truly non-emergent. These changes depend on the season, as the hunting and farming seasons bring a spike in ER visits.
In regard to the schedule any incoming GS can expect to be on for fewer than 5 days per work week. A provider can expect to work a full 8am-5pm day. The clinic is located within the confines of the physical hospital. For the time being, there will be a room fully dedicated to housing an incoming surgeon. There are also a minimum of 2 nurses on staff both days and nights to help with intake. On site, there are multiple FPs to refer patients, as well as a group right across the street that usually assists with outpatient procedures. In regard to the surgical volumes, they are not concrete, but if the nearly 8000 ED visits per year are any indication, an incoming GS can expect to do 4-6 cases per day in clinic.
Call
Per Baptist Health bylaws, a GS can expect to be on call a minimum of 12 days per month, which are agreed on with administration to prepare the staff.
The GI cases are done through Baptist Little Rock. Any incoming GS can expect to do less than 10% GI in their entire practice. There are two experienced CRNAs that are on staff to assist any surgeon. They rotate schedules and are very experienced.
