Position Overview

Understanding the Role

Your Role in Montana's Cardiac Care Hub

You will join the Benefis Health System Heart & Vascular Institute as a Non-Invasive Cardiologist, stepping into a practice that serves as the sole comprehensive cardiac care provider across a 42,000 square mile region of northcentral Montana. This expansive service area, comparable in size to Kansas, creates immediate demand for your expertise. From your first day, you can build your schedule as quickly as you want, with patients who currently face months-long waits or 4–5 hour drives for cardiac care they simply cannot access elsewhere.

The position offers genuine flexibility in how you structure your practice. You will work in a brand new clinic featuring 20 exam rooms, fully integrated with all cardiac specialties and cardiac rehab, where you can choose a 3-, 4-, or 5-day work week based on your lifestyle priorities. Your days will blend outpatient clinic visits with non-invasive cardiac testing including stress testing, echocardiography, nuclear medicine, and TEE (inpatient if desired). Unlike many cardiology positions that lock you into rigid schedules, this role allows you to dictate your own patient volume and appointment structure, whether that means 60-minute/30-minute slots or 40-minute/20-minute appointments.

Addressing Critical Community Need

Benefis serves 230,000 residents across a 14-county region in northcentral Montana and functions as the regional tertiary center. In cardiology, this role fills a critical gap—patients have relied heavily on locums coverage, and the nearest alternative cardiac care is hours away, making this position truly impactful for timely diagnosis and treatment.

You’ll join a comprehensive cardiac program offering CT and cardiovascular surgery (50 heart surgeries annually), structural heart, electrophysiology, interventional cardiology, and full non-invasive services. The team includes 2 cardiac surgeons, 1 contracted interventionalist, and 4 nurse practitioners, with opportunities to help grow and shape programs as a permanent physician presence.

The role reports through the Heart & Vascular Institute and benefits from a physician-focused leadership model, including direct, monthly access to senior physician and administrative leadership. Practice flexibility allows you to tailor your clinical focus, develop specialty clinics, or participate in regional outreach. Long-term stability—evidenced by a 20+ year CEO tenure and just 5.4% physician turnover—supports sustainable program growth.
