You'll be joining Dignity Health Medical Foundation as a founding member of their employed OB/GYN service line in Stockton—a unique position that comes with both challenges and exceptional opportunities. Currently, there are no OB/GYN physicians employed within the foundation's Stockton practice, making you part of the initial team that establishes the clinical culture, practice patterns, and collaborative relationships that will define this service line.
The foundation's recruitment strategy focuses on hiring two OB/GYN physicians initially, with one potentially serving in the dual Program Director role. This means you won’t be building this practice entirely alone. From the start, you’ll have a colleague who shares the responsibility of establishing workflows, creating backup coverage, and developing the referral relationships that sustain a thriving OB/GYN practice.
While you’ll be the first employed OB/GYN physicians within Dignity Health Medical Foundation in Stockton, you won’t be practicing in a vacuum. The community has existing OB/GYN services through Sutter Medical Group, Kaiser Permanente, and Dr. Gill’s office. However, Sutter and Kaiser primarily serve their own health plan members, creating limited direct competition except for PPO patients who have broader provider options.
Beyond OB/GYN-specific staffing, you’ll work within Dignity Health Medical Foundation’s broader infrastructure. The foundation employs physicians and advanced practice providers across many specialties, creating a collegial environment and referral ecosystem. As one of the first OB/GYNs in the practice, you'll help shape the development of future APP support and administrative workflows.
For the physician choosing the Program Director pathway, your team will include faculty members, hospital-based physicians, and community leaders who support the creation of a new OB/GYN residency program. You’ll have protected time and institutional backing to establish a high-quality academic program from the ground up.
As a founding team member, you’ll experience both the rewards and responsibilities of building something new. From establishing workflows to managing a growing patient panel, your efforts will shape the direction of women’s healthcare in this region. You won’t be alone for long—and you'll have the rare chance to choose your future colleagues and define the professional environment you want to practice in.
For the right physician, this isn’t just a job. It’s a meaningful opportunity to lead, innovate, and elevate care for thousands of women in a community ready for change.
