Meet Our Team

Kim, Christian, MD
Ratterman, Megan, DO
Terakedis, Breanne E, MD

A Collaborative Team of Oncology Professionals

You will join a close-knit hematology/oncology team that combines experienced physicians with dedicated oncology-trained support staff. Your two physician colleagues, Dr. Christian Kim and Dr. Megan Ratterman, represent different training backgrounds and practice approaches that create a collaborative learning environment rather than a rigid hierarchical structure. This is a team where physicians genuinely consult one another, share challenging cases, and support each other through the emotional demands of cancer care.

Dr. Christian Kim brings nearly two decades of hematology/oncology experience to Sheridan Memorial. He completed medical school at the Medical College of Pennsylvania State University and both residency and fellowship at Milton Hershey Medical Center in 2005. After practicing in Sacramento, California from 2007 through 2023, he relocated to Sheridan in 2024, drawn by the opportunity to practice comprehensive oncology in a mountain community. His decision to leave a well-established California practice for Sheridan speaks to the quality of life and professional satisfaction available here. Dr. Kim originally hails from Philadelphia, bringing an East Coast perspective and urban training background to a Western community practice.

Dr. Megan Ratterman completed medical school at Des Moines University and fellowship training at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois. Her osteopathic training and Midwest background complement Dr. Kim's allopathic, East Coast experience, creating diversity in clinical approach and patient care philosophy. Together, they have built a practice culture that values thoroughness, patient communication, and work-life balance.

Support Staff and Nursing Excellence

The nursing team at the Welch Cancer Center represents the specialized expertise that makes complex oncology care possible in a community setting. Your infusion center operates with three to four oncology-trained nurses during each shift, ensuring adequate staffing for the 9-chair unit even when patient volumes peak. These nurses understand chemotherapy protocols, recognize subtle signs of treatment complications, and provide the patient education and emotional support that extends your clinical reach.

Lori Karajanis serves as the OCN-certified nurse navigator, a role that proves invaluable in helping newly diagnosed cancer patients navigate the overwhelming complexity of treatment planning, insurance authorization, transportation to appointments, and coordination between medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgery, and other specialists. Her certification demonstrates commitment to oncology nursing excellence, and her knowledge of community resources helps patients access financial assistance, support groups, and practical services that address the non-medical challenges of cancer diagnosis.

The in-house oncology pharmacy staff provides another layer of specialized support. Rather than sending chemotherapy orders to an external pharmacy or relying on general hospital pharmacists unfamiliar with complex oncology regimens, you will work with pharmacists trained specifically in oncology. They verify dosing calculations, check for drug interactions, counsel patients about oral chemotherapy agents, and prepare infusions according to safety protocols that protect both patients and nursing staff.

  • Dedicated oncology nursing staff with specialized training
  • OCN certification among nursing leadership
  • Pharmacy staff trained specifically in oncology medication preparation
  • Long-tenured employees who know the community and patient population
  • Multidisciplinary approach to patient care coordination
  • Administrative support for scheduling, prior authorizations, and documentation
  • Collaborative relationship with radiation oncology, surgery, and other specialists

The stability of this team creates continuity for patients and professional satisfaction for physicians. You will not face the constant turnover that plagues many oncology practices, where nurses leave for less demanding specialties and physicians must repeatedly train new staff. Instead, you will work with colleagues who have chosen oncology deliberately, who understand the unique demands of cancer care, and who share your commitment to providing excellent treatment while maintaining sustainable practice patterns.

This is a team small enough that you will know everyone by name, experienced enough to handle complex cases independently, and supportive enough to help you integrate smoothly into both the practice and the broader Sheridan community.
