As the area’s cultural center, Sonora is home to museums, art galleries and live theatre. The City also plays host to numerous festivals and special events throughout the year. Just outside the City limits are year-round outdoor recreational opportunities at resorts, campgrounds, lakes, golf courses and high country waterways. Sonora is an easy drive from the San Francisco Bay Area or the Central Valley. State Highways 108 and 49 pass through the City, which, incidentally, is just seventy miles north of Yosemite National Park.
The Stanislaus National Forest, Yosemite National Park, and other surrounding areas provide incredible natural vistas and settings for hiking, water skiing, horseback riding, rafting, camping, snowmobiling, boating, snow skiing, fishing and other outdoor activities. But that is not all -- manmade attractions abound, as well. Seven restored historic hotels, six area golf courses, numerous gourmet restaurants, wineries, train rides, casino, five museums, two state historic sites, live theater and many charming bed-and-breakfasts are among the many other attributes that make the county a true year-round vacation destination.
Woods Creek Rotary Park is located off of HWY 49/Stockton Road on Woods Creek Drive. A picnic area lined with elms and a year-round creek is a great place for any occasion. This park includes a small playground for children, BBQ pits and tables for entertaining. A baseball diamond is located beside the park where one can sit and watch a little league game.
49er Rotary Park is located off Greenley Road adjacent to the Tuolumne County Library. This park includes a skate park and the "Heaven for Kids" playgrounds. It is owned and operated by Tuolumne County.
Coffill Park is located off of Historic Washington Street and is below street level. Once the site of horse stables it is a beautiful maintained by "Sonora Beautiful Volunteers", this park includes a tree lined picnic area and a year-round creek.
Grisby Park is located just behind Coffill Park across Green Street. This small Tot Lot is perfect for younger children.
Prospector Park is located off of Bradford Street. This small park is home to historic mining equipment.
