The department is actively expanding to serve an extensive regional patient base, with plans to grow into a six-specialist team, underscoring the hospital’s long-term commitment to advanced gastrointestinal services.

Experienced Team of Providers

The current team of highly skilled gastroenterologists brings diverse expertise and strong clinical leadership:

  • Dr. Daniel Beggs, MD
  • Dr. Todd Ellington, MD
  • Dr. James Lusby, MD – supported by two nurse practitioners; maintains a busy morning schedule seeing 18–20 patients
  • Dr. Haw Nawaz, MD – expert in advanced GI procedures; sees 25–28 patients in morning clinics
  • Dr. Kuldip Banwait, MD (1099 status)
  • Dr. Hagos Tekeste, MD (1099 status; retiring February 2025)

Recent departmental changes include the 2024 retirement of Dr. Thomas Johnson, reinforcing the ongoing need for recruitment and growth to meet patient demand.
