About the Team

The core medical oncology team consists of three oncologists based in Great Falls, including Dr. Martin Tang, the Medical Director. Dr. Tang's ability to maintain 90th percentile production while typically finishing work around 4 PM exemplifies the department's commitment to work-life balance. Alongside Dr. Tang are Dr. Carter and Dr. Martin, completing the team with a full-time locum tenens oncologist in Helena, Dr. Aks, whom Benefis is looking to replace with a permanent hire.

Supporting the oncologists are three Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), Whitney Mckinley, DNP/FNP-C and David Brost, PA-C, and one other, specializing in hematology/oncology, who play a crucial role in patient care by often handling clinic visits and follow-ups. This allows the oncologists to focus on complex cases and treatment planning. The radiation oncology team, consisting of two MDs, Dr. Clyde and Dr. Rutter, work closely with the medical oncologists to provide comprehensive cancer treatment.

The nursing staff is a cornerstone of the oncology department, featuring Oncology Certified Nurses (OCNs), dedicated infusion nurses, and nurse navigators who guide patients through their entire cancer journey. This team is further enhanced by an array of support services staff, including certified genetic counselors, an on-staff naturopath, a dietician, social workers, financial counselors, care navigators, and clinical research staff who support the conduct of late-phase clinical trials.

Specialized roles within the department include a tumor registrar, infusion center supervisor, radiation oncology supervisor, and a dosimetrist for radiation treatment planning. Administrative support is provided by a dedicated surgery scheduler and various administrative staff who assist with day-to-day operations, scheduling, and patient communication.

While not directly part of the oncology team, Benefis fosters close collaboration with surgeons, radiologists, and pathologists to ensure comprehensive care. The department also benefits from visiting specialists, such as a gynecologic oncologist from the University of Utah who visits a couple of times per month. Furthermore, Benefis collaborates with non-employed community oncologists who share call responsibilities and participate in twice-weekly tumor boards, fostering a collaborative approach to cancer care in the region.
