Practice Details
- Brand New LAB build and opened in February of 2021.
- ThinPrep machine: monolayer technique which is fantastic & improves the quality of our cytology work.
- 15-20 cases per day; slides, Histo-labs, analyzing fluids.
- Of those 10-15 GI or Breast Biopsy, Prostate, Skin.
- Micros done in the morning.
- Grossing done in afternoon.
- Histo techs gross the biopsies.
- 4,000 surgical cases per year ranging from (but not limited to):
- GI, GI Biopsies, Breast Biopsy/Resection, Colon Biopsy/Resection,
- Anything out of the ‘ordinary’ is shipped to University of Washington for consultation.
- LPO Genomics Labs sends us labs/images analysis for anything we do in-house.
- Immuno stains a large percentage are done in-house “immunostaining”
- We do have a frozen section room immediately outside of the ORs. It is underused. Perhaps 4 frozens have been done in 3 years.
- IP / CP
- Some Gyn cytology, No Pap Smears
- No Autopsy.
- No Bone Marrow or Hematology. We refer to Mayo Clinic for all referrals.
- Breast lumpectomy but not majors. No pancreatic or neck dissections are done here.
- If someone has areas of interest or sub specialization, we can likely allow them to do that, as long as they know that the position is for a ‘generalist’ Anatomical & Clinical Path is the need.
- Call: 3 Days per week Mon-Friday w/ Dr Mensch taking what amounts to 1:3 call. The incoming physician will be on call just under 2 out of every 3 nights.
- Call is negligible. Perhaps 1 call per month. Dr Mensch said in 3 years there he has had to come in maybe 5 times. The thing he has been called back in for was CML Smear Occasionally may get called.
- No assistants or midlevel’s in the practice.
- Ability to offer leadership / medical director for the right physician for CPH Soldotna.
- Ability to offer Medical Director title immediately for Homer, AK-90 minutes away, the physicians cover 1 day per quarter there.
