Time off – ATO Policy FAQs

ATO, Allowable Time Off, is a new vacation plan that offers greater flexibility when taking time off. This plan better aligns with our commitment to provide a more flexible work environment and provides Physicians the freedom and flexibility to plan their leisure time.

We want to provide our Physicians with greater flexibility and autonomy in managing their time off, allowing for a more inclusive approach that encompasses various types of leave, such as holidays, vacation, sick time and personal business. We put our trust in our Physicians to better balance their well-being while maintaining high performance.

All current full-time and part-time Physicians are eligible for ATO.

Beginning FY24, all current Physicians will be offered ATO during their normal contract renewal date.

Beginning FY24, all new hire CPG Physician contracts will offer the new ATO plan.

Physicians who wish to move from the current PTO model to the ATO model prior to their contract renewal date would need to request and sign an addendum to their current employment agreement. To make that request, please contact VP, Chief Operating Officer Stephanie Vicent at SVicent@communitymedical.org.

We aim to offer you a more flexible time off option. In that effort, all contract renewals beginning FY24 will only offer ATO. PTO will sunset and no longer be offered.

Unused PTO hours will be converted into a cash payout when transitioning to ATO, ensuring that our Physicians receive fair compensation for any accrued but unused leave. Unused PTO will be processed through the CPG Payroll Portal. Please note, you are taxed on the total amount you choose to cash out, which may reduce your normal paycheck’s net amount.

This plan allows our Physicians the ability to manage time off with flexibility and as needed. We trust that you will continue to balance your time off for your personal well-being while meeting the high-performance needs of your practice.

Tracking ATO usage is important for a few reasons, including patient care continuity, resource management and burnout prevention. All Physicians should follow the standard request for time off process set forth by their Medical Director or Physician Leader. Once approved, ATO hours should be reported in the CPG payroll portal system for tracking purposes. If you are unable to access the CPG payroll portal, please contact your Practice leader or the HR Provider Group email distribution at HRProviderGroup@Communitymedical.org.

ATO hours will reset every year at the employee’s contract date. Since ATO has no monetary value, it will not accumulate and there is no option to cash out.

PTO cash outs cannot be deferred into a retirement plan but we do offer the option to support Community’s mission and the patients we serve. You may elect to have all or a portion of your PTO cash out donated to Community. You can direct your donation to an area of your choice (including your own department). Please note that you are taxed on the total amount you choose to donate, which may reduce your normal paycheck’s net amount.

For further support in clarifying questions or concerns you may have, please reach out to your supporting VP of Operations and or CHP Network Development.
