This is a unique opportunity for Emergency Medicine Physicians to contribute to a community-focused, innovative healthcare environment in one of the fastest-growing counties in the U.S.

Candidate Parameters:

  • Board Certified/Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine (EM) required— (no FM or IM).
  • Open to new residents, experienced physicians, and fellowship-trained candidates.
  • Teaching experience is not required. However, residents (family medicine/transition year) and medical students will rotate through the department.

Schedule & Coverage:

  • Physicians will work 120 hours per month (12-hour shifts)
    • There will be an option to work 10-hour shifts
  • No requirement to live in the area, you can commute in.
  • Daily Staffing: The (main) ED is staffed with 5 physicians and 2-4 APPs each day. APP’s assist the physician with their patients but also see some of their own patients.
  • Rotations between the main ED and FSEDs are expected, though exclusive FSED coverage may be considered.
  • Emergency physicians manage an average of 1.5–1.7 patients per hour, maintaining high efficiency even during peak times. The team continuously monitors volume trends to optimize staffing and ensure excellent patient care.
  • Call Schedule: No call responsibilities are required for this position.
  • Schedule is created 2-3 months in advance.

Facilities & Resources:

  • FSED #1 (Opening 2026): 12 beds with full lab, X-ray, CT, and ultrasound capabilities.
  • FSED #2 (Opening late 2026/early 2027): 8 beds with full lab, X-ray, CT, and ultrasound capabilities—will be attached to our Health Plaza South location in Socastee, which is a multispecialty facility in a growing community.
  • Technology: Cerner EMR with Dragon Dictation for efficient charting.
  • 3T MRI at Socastee FSED
  • Specialist Access: The ED operates with a closed ICU supported by intensivists available in-house 24/7. Surgicalists are on call to assist in the ED when needed.
  • CMC is a Chest Pain Center with an established STEMI program and 24/7 interventional cardiology services. STEMI alert protocols ensure rapid and efficient cardiac emergency response.
  • Physicians have opportunities to mentor residents and medical students. Clinical mentoring occurs during shifts, with no obligation for didactic lectures. This is ideal for physicians interested in teaching in a practical setting.
  • No hallway beds or corridor boarding

LEVEL OF CARE & TRANSFERS:

  • Level III Trauma Center
  • Over 50,000 annual ER visits
  • Low Transfer Rate: ~2% | Admission Rate: 10%-25%. (higher during the flu/covid season)
  • Common transfers include neurosurgical cases, advanced orthopedic trauma, transplant patients, and pediatric ICU cases. Transfers are facilitated seamlessly through established call-center protocols with tertiary care facilities.

      • $260 days
      • $270 nights
    • FSED:
      • $250 days & nights
  • CME Stipend - $3,000/year
  • Licensure & Credentialing Fees – Covered by CMC.
