Position Overview
Candidate Parameters
Fellowship trained and board certified/eligible in gastroenterology. 2024 and 2025 candidates accepted as well as those currently practicing. Open to candidates that can do ERCP or EUS, but this is not required.
Typical Schedule
- Full time position – Monday thru Thursday 8am–5pm and Friday 8am–noon
- 36 Patient Contact Hours – 4 Admin Hours/week
- Call: 1:6 Weekdays & Weekends (currently 1:5) – Consult Only Service – No Admissions
- Physicians participate in creating the call schedule
Practice Details
- 50/50 split on clinic lab/endoscopy
- The clinic can schedule up to 20+ patients per 8-hour day, depending on physician comfort
- ~5000 endoscopy cases/year – 500 inpatient / 4500 outpatient
- 100+ ERCP, expected to double with Dr. Kodsi joining
- 180+ EUS (currently one physician performs these)
- 500+ GI referral backlog – 3-4 week wait for new patients
- CMC Cancer Center is affiliated with Duke Health Network, enabling local care for cancer cases
- General GI practice opportunity; ERCP preferred due to limited provider availability
- EUS not required – limited equipment (1 room/machine), but available for those trained
- NPs assist with clinic visits, scheduling, and patient follow-up
Referral Sources
Referrals come from both within the CMC PCP network and external providers, all processed through Central Scheduling.
CMC – Endoscopy
- Renovated in 2022
- 4 procedure rooms and 8 holding rooms (pre and post-op)
- Scopes: Olympus 180 and 190 series (HD)
- C-Arm available in the hospital
- Propofol used in endoscopy suite; conscious sedation used in ICU or other hospital areas
- Closed ICU and CCU
