Clinically, this position is Monday through Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm and is 100% outpatient. There is already a faculty member to help teach residents in an inpatient setting.

    • Includes precepting, teaching (classroom & clinical), committees & scholarly activities 
    • Collaborate directly with the Program Director 
    • Experience in Graduate Medical Education as teaching faculty or associate program director 
  • ACGME Accredited Programs-IM, FM, EM, PSY, Sports, Addiction, ID, Geriatrics, Pulmonary 
  • 463-Bed Hospital/ 700K Service Area = Wide Pathology and High Level of Acuity 
    • Coverage Available in All Specialties & Established Hospitalist Program 
  • Epic EMR  

Day to Day

  • Clinic Location: Cathedral City
  • 2.5-3 days in clinic (1 day your own clinic and 1.5-2 days precepting residents)
    • You will have a smaller patient panel
    • Average 18-20 patients/day
    • For precepting, they want you to teach the newer residents how to be efficient and manage their own panels. To help them be more confident when they step into their own practice after training.
  • Call is supervising call, 2 residents on call. Phone Call only
    • 1:4, 1 week at a time
    • Dr. White shared call is very light. She’s only gotten 1-2 calls the entire week.
  • There is protected Admin time.
    • ½ day lecture series every week (giving/organizing)
    • Meet with 12 residents quarterly – mentoring. 
    • Monthly committee meetings (2-3 hours/month) 
    • Any projects with Program Director or any other GME requirements.

Overview

Accredited in 2011, the Eisenhower Internal Medicine Residency Program is designed to provide broad-based clinical training, with an emphasis on preparation, for comprehensive primary care and hospitalist medicine. The goal of our program is to assist residents in developing the competencies necessary to become outstanding comprehensive internists, capable of managing diverse patients with a broad range of diseases. Residents are given guidance and advice to develop their careers, achieve scholarship, and assure competencies needed for the next steps of their careers.

Our goal is to train residents with the skills required of an internist but more importantly achieve the ability to be expert self-learners as they progress into our ever changing health system. To this end, we have established and emphasize a clear foundation of Core Internal Medicine clinical experiences and curricular content in the form of lectures, case based discussions, simulation and web-based learning. We fully endorse and emphasize the Core Competencies as described by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), which are Patient Care, Medical Knowledge, Professionalism, Systems-Based Practice, Practice-Based Learning and Improvement, and Interpersonal and Communication skills.

Program Strengths 

You’ll be immersed in a diverse learning environment that includes a wide range of learning methods. A key ingredient is experiential learning in which every resident rotates through a variety of inpatient and outpatient venues.

Traditional experiential and didactic training methods are supplemented by web-based education, simulation training and one-on-one faculty interaction. The curriculum includes Morning Report, Noon conferences, Grand Rounds, Resident Update and Feedback Sessions, Subspecialty Journal Clubs, EBM Lectures, Practice Management, and career preparation.

Our training program offers a unique blend of resident responsibility, patient diversity, and a most extraordinary spectrum of illnesses. The multi-cultural environment where internal medicine training takes place is uniquely varied. Residents will care for patients on the inpatient services at EMC and be the physician for providing continuity of ambulatory services in the clinic at the Eisenhower Center for Internal Medicine. Rotations at Volunteers in Medicine, a community-based clinic, round out the experience.

Goals and Objectives 

The Eisenhower Internal Medicine Residency Program is designed to provide broad-based clinical training, with an emphasis on preparation, for comprehensive primary care and hospitalist medicine. The goal of our program is to assist residents in developing the competencies necessary to become outstanding comprehensive internists, capable of managing diverse patients with a broad range of diseases. Residents are given guidance and advice to develop their careers, achieve scholarship, and assure competencies needed for the next steps of their careers.

One of the unique features of the program is the balance between inpatient and outpatient experiences. Second and third year residents enjoy an innovative schedule that allows for a focused exposure to both inpatient and ambulatory medicine. Residents on ambulatory blocks benefit from close collaboration with community-based primary care and subspecialty faculty. During these rotations, residents build skills in office-based diagnosis and treatment, while managing diverse continuity practices. Residents on inpatient rotations enjoy graded responsibilities, with first year residents providing much of the direct patient care, and second and third year residents assuming increased responsibility for teaching, supervision and mastery of medical knowledge. A strong ethic of collegiality and support pervades both ambulatory practices and inpatient teams.

Inpatient training is centered at Eisenhower Health.  Eisenhower Health is very highly rated by our patients as a primary, secondary and tertiary care facility. Patients referred are often of a very complex nature but because of the large staff of Eisenhower primary care physicians, we also see a substantial number of common community diseases.
