The NICU handles infants born at 32 weeks gestational age or later, or full-term babies requiring extra care. The unit features advanced technology such as isolettes, ventilators, radiant warmers, and specialized lighting designed to regulate circadian rhythms. The NICU provides 24/7 access to respiratory therapists, lactation consultants, and neonatal specialists. The facility also offers telemonitoring for family members through a secure, password-protected system.
Day shifts involve admitting patients to the NICU, while evening and night shifts allow PEDS HOSP to handle admissions unless the case is complex, in which the neonatologist is called in. After-hours emergencies such as pre-term deliveries (<34 weeks), multiple deliveries (<35 weeks), or babies requiring oxygen or intubation may also require the neonatologist's intervention.
