Clinical Component

Cardiologist Position: Varied Responsibilities and Patient Care at Geneva General, Soldiers and Sailors, and Thompson Health

Primary responsibilities will be at Geneva General, Soldiers and Sailors, and Thompson Health, performing out/inpatient consults, and interpreting Nuclear/Stress Tests/ECHO, etc. The incoming cardiologist will also be required to provide call coverage at Geneva General and Thompson Health.

  • Flexible schedule, five (5) clinical work week.
  • Anticipated clinical volume will be between 24 patients per day (12 per ½ day)
  • Incoming candidates should be proficient in all aspects of General Cardiology. Including Nuclear
  • Typical Schedule: The schedule is adjustable to the needs of the provider as well as the office and hospital. Likely, it will be an alternating schedule of inpatient / study reading days and office hours for pts. As I said this can be adjusted to whatever we figure out works best, whether that is dedicated weeks to testing and office hours or just days. Most of the time is spent at Geneva with 2 days a week at Soldiers and Sailors.
  • Patient Volume: Currently, Dr. Rodriguez sees patients every 20 minutes from 1PM to 4PM, which makes about 12 patients during his office hour sessions. With the anticipated schedule above, a full day of patients starting at 8AM will likely be about 22 to 23 patients.
  • On reading days, typical volume is about 60 ECGs, 20-30 echos / nuclear stress tests / stress echos, 4-5 Holters, 2-3 external loop recorders, and remote device interrogation report review. Inpatient volume, which would be on reading days, typically averages about 2-3 consults daily. TEEs and cardioversions are currently done twice a month on Friday, with the possibility of expanding days this is offered depending on volume.

The Call

The 1:9 call schedule is shared with the Finger Lakes Cardiology Associates group from Thompson Hospital, which is also affiliated with URMC and Dr. Rodriguez. They just added two new cardiologists.

  • Weekday Call: Weekday call is 4:30 PM to 7 AM and is usually phone consultation only with the expectation to come into the hospital only for critical emergencies where the patient cannot be transferred to a tertiary care center. There is no STAT echo on call at Geneva General or Soldiers and Sailors
  • Weekend Call: Weekend call begins Friday at 4:30 PM and continues until Monday morning at 7AM. The majority of the call on weekends is phone consultation. Typically, I will round on one weekend day at Thompson, usually Sunday, to see inpatient consults or follow ups. The average volume for these is 2-3 patients. If there is a sonographer at Thompson doing routine echos on Sunday, those echos would have to be read as well.
