A True Full-Spectrum Midwifery Practice

At Franciscan Physician Network, you'll experience the full breadth and depth of midwifery practice—from guiding women through annual wellness visits to the profound moment of welcoming new life. Your days will be filled with meaningful patient encounters where you'll have the time and autonomy to practice relationship-based care. Unlike high-volume practices where midwives are rushed through appointments, your schedule respects the midwifery model of holistic, patient-centered care.

Your clinical practice will span both the outpatient clinic adjacent to the hospital and the labor and delivery unit, creating a seamless continuity of care experience for your patients. You'll build relationships during prenatal visits, guide patients through labor and delivery, and provide essential postpartum support—the complete midwifery journey that many practitioners dream of but rarely find in today's fragmented healthcare environment.

Balanced Clinical Responsibilities

  • Manageable clinic volume of 20-25 patients daily in a supportive environment designed for midwifery care
  • Comprehensive women's health services including antepartum and postpartum care, Pap smears, breast exams, and annual wellness exams
  • Fulfilling delivery experience with approximately 6-8 deliveries monthly (72-96 annually)—enough to maintain excellent skills without overwhelming call burden
  • Daily rounding on your postpartum patients, allowing you to complete the birth journey with each family
  • Reasonable 1:4 call schedule with approximately 10 call days monthly, providing work-life balance rarely found in obstetrical practices
  • First-line responsibility for your own patients when on call, with reliable nurse triage screening to minimize unnecessary calls

Exceptional Clinical Support

  • 24/7 laborist coverage available for backup or consultation whenever needed
  • Collaborative physician model with an assigned OB/GYN who can assist with complex cases
  • Level III NICU ensuring comprehensive care for newborns requiring special attention
  • MFM consults available for high-risk pregnancy management
  • Anesthesiology support available 24/7 for epidurals and surgical needs
  • Two dedicated sleep rooms in Labor & Delivery for on-call providers

In this practice, you'll never find yourself without support when needed, while maintaining the autonomy that makes midwifery so rewarding. The hospital performs approximately 1,500 deliveries annually with a 30.7% C-section rate, offering ample opportunity for your involvement in normal physiologic birth while having resources available for complications.
