Now that we covered the history of the organization and why we are looking to recruit, let’s now transition to the nuts and bolts of the practice opportunity.
This is an employed position with the hospital. It is general orthopedic surgery with a great opportunity to specialize in sports if desired. In this position, you will enjoy a 4-day workweek: 3 days clinic and 1 dedicated O.R. day. Call is split between the other two providers and is taken 10 days in a row. Dr. Young quantified the current call volume. He is receiving anywhere from 0-3 calls/night and goes into the hospital around 2-4 times during his 10 days on call. As you build up your practice you will get designated block time. Dr. Young also specified that he has been able to do multiple cases outside of his block time. He only sees bread and Butter trauma, major pelvis and head gets shipped out. Prior to him coming to Ivinson, all trauma was shipped to Ft. Collins. There is a radiology department in the hospital onsite for imaging. There is also a physical therapy clinic onsite with 8 Physical Therapists and 3 Physical Therapy Assistants on staff.
Debbie the OR Manager is very organized. SPD has direct access to the core through a separate elevator. Dr. Young prefers to use Zimmer and Stryker devices for Orthopedic cases and are flexible and open to discussion. For most cases the OR staff includes 1-2 scrub techs, circulator, and anesthesia. The 6 techs are trained in all specialties and well rounded. They also have SFA on staff, available for cases.
