Currently, our surgeons are seeing over 500 patients in the clinic and performing over 180 surgeries annually. The top surgical procedures we do are Lap Cholis, Hernia repair. We spend 45 minutes on an initial consultation and 15-20 minutes on follow-ups. We do not treat trauma patients here as we are a community hospital. Trauma patients are transported to one of MedStar’s tertiary care hospitals about 35 miles away.

Call is 1:5 or 6-days per month. Any additional call is compensated. Weekends are offset by locums 1-2 weekends per month.

The current practice is 70% general surgery and 30% subspecialty except for the bariatric surgeon who is doing 85% subspecialty and 15% general. They share in the general surgery call schedule.

We have a new DaVinci Xi, our EMR is proprietary MedConnect which is a Cerner platform in the hospital and the clinic. We have 5 ORs and a minor room for endo’s. OR time is determined by block scheduling. It is reviewed each month and the number of days is determined by availability and utilization. Our OR turnaround time is under 45 minutes which leads the entire MedStar system.
