With more than 1,200 associates, MedStar St. Mary’s is one of the largest employers in St. Mary’s County. From diagnosis to treatment and recovery, our skilled professionals work together to make the patient experience the best it can be. Not only will we meet the patient’s medical needs, but we will offer them the dignity, comfort, and support they deserve during trying times.
As a not-for-profit hospital, MedStar St. Mary's earnings are reinvested into the community and into improving patient care. Our community outreach program, Health Connections, promotes healthy living through seminars, classes, support groups, health fairs, and demonstrations. Free and low-cost programs are offered on the hospital campus and in the community.

They have a Monday-Friday, 8:00-5:00 schedule. Most hospital consults are seen in 24 hours. Most floor consults take 5-10 minutes total. The wait to see a provider is based on your availability. Most surgeries can be scheduled in 24-48 hours but will depend on the sense of urgency and how late you would want to operate.
We would like someone that is willing to be a Generalist with preferred sub-specialty interest in Total Joints. We would also consider Foot/Ankle, Hand/Wrist or Sports. You also need to be able to endure the growing pains that come with being a new provider in the community. The hospital does a wonderful job of marketing their new providers and getting them out in the community. Many referrals come from word-of-mouth and there are 1000’s from MedStar Primary Care. Although we are a small practice, you will have a loud voice. There is great autonomy and a great lifestyle.
We would like to see someone who wants to grow the practice beyond Leonardtown. There is a big patient population to draw from and with a little effort the new provider can do well and make a substantial income while providing a needed service in the community.
At the hospital, there are 6 ORs and a minor room all with negative pressure. Three of the ORs are large to accommodate Ortho cases and the C-Arm. Turnover is usually 30-35 minutes. One of the ORs is usually for general surgery and the DaVinci robot. OR times are 7:30-3:00 or 7:30-5:00. There is scheduled block time for 3 providers. They have a Biomet Rosa robot in storage at the hospital, if a doctor wants to use it, we will need to get the staff trained on it. There is also a HANA Table. Hospitalists admit with Orthopedic consult.
We are not an Ortho trauma center. We can take care of routine Ortho trauma, hip/ankle fractures, etc., Significant Ortho trauma is sent to MedStar Washington Hospital Center which is a Level I trauma center. The clinic is in a fairly new building and has 12 exam rooms, offices for the providers and more. Minor procedures like casting, fractures, cast removals, etc. can be done in clinic.
