Understanding the Role
MedStar Medical Group is adding a concierge medicine physician to an established, high-profile concierge primary care practice in Chevy Chase, MD.
The program has operated in the area for more than 15 years and maintains a strong reputation with sustained patient demand. You will join Merlene Horan, MD, an accomplished physician who has built the practice into a premier offering in the Washington, DC metro region.
This role is designed for a physician who wants to practice primary care the way it was intended, with time for meaningful patient relationships, thorough evaluations, and continuity of care across years, not minutes.
Practice Snapshot
- Setting: Outpatient only, concierge primary care
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, business hours
- Panel Size: 350 to 400 patients
- Daily Volume: 3 to 5 patients per day
- Visit Length: Up to 90 minutes
- Call: Shared coverage, minimal nights and weekends
- Patient Age Range: 14 and up (adult-only acceptable)
Role Purpose
- Expand physician capacity within a high-demand concierge program
- Deliver longitudinal, relationship-based primary care to a sophisticated patient population
- Maintain direct patient access via phone, virtual visits, and occasional home visits when clinically appropriate
- Collaborate with Dr. Horan and the concierge support team on complex care coordination
Qualifications
Required:
- Board certification in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Medicine-Pediatrics
- Active or obtainable licensure in Maryland, Washington DC, and Virginia
- 5+ years of post-training clinical experience
Preferred:
- Prior concierge or direct primary care experience
- Demonstrated skill in caring for high-expectation patient populations
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Comfort with technology-enabled care, including wearable health monitoring
Alternative pathway considered:
- Subspecialists with strong primary care comfort may be considered on a case-by-case basis
Responsibilities
- Manage a personal panel of 350 to 400 concierge patients
- Conduct comprehensive, extended-visit outpatient evaluations
- Provide direct communication access to patients via phone and virtual channels
- Participate in shared on-call coverage with the concierge team
- Coordinate specialty referrals across the MedStar network
- Perform occasional home visits for homebound patients when clinically indicated
- Support continuity of care for patients traveling or receiving care outside the local area

Position Type
This is an additive role driven by patient demand and program growth, working alongside the current lead physician. Reporting relationships fall within the MedStar Medical Group concierge leadership structure.
