Join Our Team: ACT Psychiatrist Opportunity at Northeast Counseling Services

At Northeast Counseling Services, we believe in bringing quality mental health treatment directly to those who need it most. As part of our Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team, often referred to as a "hospital without walls", our goal is to keep individuals engaged in their communities and out of state hospitals, jails, emergency rooms, and other institutions. Our ACT program provides intensive, around-the-clock treatment to individuals diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness who may lack resources or family support. We're looking for a dedicated ACT Psychiatrist to join our multidisciplinary team, committed to changing lives in our community.

Team:

  • Our team of 10 includes dedicated RNs (3), LCSWs (2) a housing specialist, a drug & alcohol expert, and other positions dedicated to ACT psychiatry.
  • The ACT team consists of a group of professionals that provide psychiatry, psychiatric nursing, therapy, peer support, employment and vocational support, housing support, crisis services, and general case management needs.
  • The expectation is for the MD and other team members to visit patients on their own.

Patients:

  • Inherit a patient panel of 75 existing patients – the ACT team is capped per state regulations to 75 patients.
  • Patients average 2.5 years of care and new patient intakes are few and far between.
  • You must see all 75 patients per month – some you will see more than others based on their needs.

Schedule:

  • Enjoy working only 4 days per week (Monday - Thursday), with 32 scheduled patient contact hours per week.
  • You will complete an average of 8 visits per day. Patient appointments are scheduled based on their proximity to one another to help avoid wasteful driving.
  • The ACT team meets at the beginning of each day before dispersing to their individual assignments.

Therapeutic Services:

  • Deliver professional therapeutic services to clients with mental health and addictive disorders.
  • Carry out comprehensive mental health and substance abuse assessments, providing diagnosis, medication recommendations, and treatment plans.
  • Create individual service plans in compliance with Medicaid, insurer, CARF, and other standards, ensuring clear documentation and consumer involvement.

Service Delivery:

  • Regularly monitor clients' progress and adherence to their service plan.
  • Compose progress notes directly relating to treatment outcomes as stated in the service plan.
  • Continually reassess clients' treatment needs, identifying unmet needs, reviewing available resources, and adjusting the treatment plan as necessary.
  • Participate in daily staff meetings and treatment planning meetings.
  • Provide crisis intervention services to existing clients as needed, and on-call, after-hours services on an as-needed basis.

Community Engagement:

  • Establish partnerships with community agencies for additional treatment options and medical care.
  • Cultivate cooperative relationships with community service providers.
  • Inform clients and their families about available community advocacy and support groups.

Requirements:

  • Possession of an MD/Doctorate from a medical school recognized by the state board of medical examiners.
  • Board Certification or eligibility in Psychiatry.
  • Valid licensure to practice medicine in Pennsylvania.
  • Must be comfortable treating patients in patient homes or public spaces in the community (like the library or the park) independently.
  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and have a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience providing substance abuse treatment & familiarity with ASAM.
  • Prior experience with community-based services, ACT level services, and case management.
  • Previous work with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness, ACT teams, or those identified as frequent users of ERs, Psychiatric Hospitals, Crisis Stabilization Units, and the criminal justice system.
  • Capability and flexibility to work in a high-stress, fast-paced environment with a varied and challenging population.
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams.

Join our dedicated team at Northeast Counseling Services, where your skills and passion can make a real difference in our community. If you meet the above qualifications and are driven to provide high-quality, personalized care for those with severe and persistent mental illness, we encourage you to apply.
