At Ochsner Medical Center, you will be welcomed into a robust department that blends depth of expertise with a culture of collegiality. The Department of Anesthesiology includes more than 70 anesthesiologists, 100 CRNAs, and over 45 house staff, supporting an annual case volume exceeding 52,000. Within this environment, the Cardiac Critical Care team is tightly integrated with surgical and critical care colleagues, creating a seamless, supportive practice culture.

A Multidisciplinary Approach

You will work alongside three dedicated Cardiac Critical Care specialists—Shaun Yockelson, MD, Adrian Alexis Ruiz, MD, and Melanie Pozzo, MD—who collaborate daily with intensivists, cardiovascular surgeons, and advanced practice providers. Surgeons and intensivists round together, ensuring balanced decision-making and mutual respect for each specialty’s expertise. The culture is free of hierarchy-driven finger-pointing; instead, you’ll find a team committed to shared responsibility for the sickest patients in the hospital.
